Poems About Denmark

In 2022, I studied abroad in Denmark. I stayed in a suburb a mere 20 minute train ride from Copenhagen. Here is a collection of poems I wrote during that time.

Untitled

    Your ground littered in leaves
    Your skies coated by clouds
    Your seas, cold and stormy,
But kind and loving all the same
How I want to engrave you into my soul,
The lands I've come to love
The places I'll come to miss

Platform

I saw you on the train today,
    Except it wasn't really you
    But I wish it was
Even if I wouldn't know what to say

Winter Morning

    The early morning,
    Still cold and dark
    The birds in the courtyard
    Look different
    Larger than life
    My tea has gone cold
    Perhaps the sun will return
    Sooner rather than later

Commute

There is a loose tile in the subway tunnel
It rings loud when stepped on
There is a holly bush on the corner
    It is always green
    There is a stairwell
    It is always empty
    There is a train
    Full and loud
    There is me
    Alone

Goodbyes

    And maybe I am greedy
Because I want to devour the whole of the country
    With my eyes
    With my heart
    I want to consume it
    Hold it inside

On Trains, On Buses, On Ferries
    Endlessly searching, watching, looking
    Open skies, fields, and seas,
    Stay with me
    Here in my eyes
    Here in my heart
